Types Of Upholstery Fabric
Types Of Upholstery Fabric
Polyester
Often used with other fibres, Polyester is a great blending fibre with cotton to add wrinkle protection to the fabric. Polyester retains dyes and was an early choice for outdoor upholstery yarn.
Synthetic Leather
Faux leather or synthetic leather or imitation leather or artificial leather or leatherette. PU (polyurethane) leather, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) leather, and microfiber leather are the three main forms of faux leather fabrics. Although those three types of imitation leather materials are not real leather, they may be used in a variety of items such as shoes, clothes, bags, and furniture.
Chenille Fabric
Chenille fabric can be made from cotton, silk, rayon or wool. The fabric has a raised pile with a thick and soft texture and feel. The word chenille originates from the French for caterpillar – this relates to the texture of the fabric having the appearance of a caterpillar! As it has a pile it can look different in different lights and from different angles. It is important when working with it to make sure that the fabric is all going in the same direction. It has texture like velvet and works very well when used with it as a co-ordinating fabric.
